If you are fully insured, you need to contact your Insurance Company ASAP after your accident. Your Insurance Company will guide you through their claim process.
Briefly, they will ask for a description of how the accident happened, details of any other parties (if there are any involved), if the police attended and a report was compiled (there will be a report number if this is the case) or if there were any witnesses and their details.
Your Insurance Company will then provide you with a Claim Number. Your Claim Number provides the linkage of your vehicle repairs between your Insurance Company and your Repair Centre.
Depending on which Insurance Company you are insured with they may ask you to attend their Assessing Centre. This is where they will inspect the vehicle and take photos of all accident damage.
Once your vehicle has been inspected your Insurance Company will request estimates from repair workshops. This can be done electronically or from their Assessment Centre of in some circumstances they may ask you to go directly to a nominated Repair Centre.
Your vehicle repairs (relating to the accident) are authorised and allocated to a Repair Centre. After which, upon arrival of parts, your vehicle can be booked in and scheduled for repairs.
Your Insurance Company will advise which Repair Centre will be repairing your vehicle and if you have an excess to pay which will be payable upon collection of your repaired vehicle.
Note: Should your vehicle be undriveable or unsafe to drive your Insurance Company will arrange for a tow truck and advise you where your vehicle is being towed to. Your vehicle will be assessed from the Repair Centre it is towed to.
Third Party or Private Work:
Record all details of the third party. (Drivers License, current address, details of vehicle(s) involved (make, model, year and rego))
If the Police are contacted ensure you capture the attending Officers Name and accident report number.
You are much better off putting the claim through our own insurance company to avoid possible delays with 3rd party insurance claims.
Private work – we are happy to provide Estimates for private work. Abeta will work with you to achieve the best repair results. We will recommend the best repair methods, beit full panel work or dentless repairs. Should second hand parts be utilised (at owner request or due to part availability) only quality parts will be used.
Questions to ask your Repairer:
- What repair methods will be used in the vehicle repair?
- What warranties are provided for repairs and paint work?
- If private work or a third party estimate, is it possible the estimate will increase? If so under what circumstances?
- How is the vehicle stored whilst in their care?
- What Insurance companies are they recommended repairers for?
- Are you able to have a printed Estimate of Insurance approved repairs?
- What is the process should I have any questions post my repairs?
- What training is provided to staff?
